Manual picking is costing lives and time
Today, pharmacy dispensing relies heavily on manual processes — leaving the door open to wrong drug selection, batch mismatches, expired medicines, and costly delays. Each error ripples through patient safety, compliance, and hospital reputation. The Pharmacy Item Basket Android application addresses these risks head-on, bringing end-to-end automation to your dispensing floor.

Secure Authentication
Role-based login validated against the hospital user master, ensuring only authorized staff access dispensing workflows.

Store & Cost Centre
Context-aware selection of dispensing location (Main, ICU, OT, Emergency) tied to billing rules and stock pools.

Barcode Scanning
Camera-assisted patient and medicine barcode scanning with manual fallback for uninterrupted operations.

Live Item Validation
Batch, expiry, MRP, and quantity checked in real-time before any item enters the digital basket.

Digital Basket
Editable, running-total basket with full order summary before confirmation — no surprises at checkout.

HMIS Sync
Voucher generation and automatic sync with the hospital's Issue/Return module for seamless billing.
From login to voucher — in minutes
The journey begins the moment a pharmacy staff member opens the app. After entering their User ID and password — validated in real time against the hospital’s user master — the system presents only the stores and dispensing locations that user is authorized to access, whether Main Pharmacy, Emergency, ICU, OT, or any configured outlet. Once a store is selected, the staff member picks the appropriate Cost Centre (Outpatient, Inpatient, Credit, or Direct Sale), which locks in the correct billing rules for everything that follows.
With context established, the app moves to patient identification. The camera auto-focuses and reads a patient’s barcode in a single scan — instantly pulling up their prescription, demographics, treating doctor, and PTN ID. If the barcode is damaged or unavailable, a manual entry fallback ensures the workflow is never interrupted. The staff member selects the patient from the retrieved list and proceeds directly to medicine dispensing.
Each medicine is scanned or searched by name. The moment an item is identified, the app performs a live validation — checking the batch number, expiry date, MRP, and current stock level before the item can be added to the basket. The staff member enters the required quantity, the system verifies it against available stock, and the item is added with the running basket total updated automatically. This process repeats for every medicine in the prescription, with flags raised instantly for any discrepancy.
Before committing, the staff member reviews a complete order summary — every line item, quantity, and amount laid out clearly. A single confirmation tap finalises the basket. The app then generates a digital voucher and syncs the entire transaction with the hospital’s HMIS Issue/Return Module, reflecting the dispensed items in billing and stock records simultaneously. Bills can be generated directly from within the module, completing a fully paperless, fully auditable dispensing cycle.
